EXCELLENT NOVEL ... EXCELLENT SERIES !!!
By Robert Steven Thomas
This is the second book in the "Nadia Tesla Series." It is an unusual, creative and highly original story about how human greed & deceit can infect the lives of innocents and push them beyond their endurance. This novel will appeal to a wide range of readers. All the main characters are believable and well-developed. The thrilling action and subplots take us around the globe, from Alaska to New York and Europe. This book and its prequel "The Boy From Reactor 4" also include some remarkable insight on the current criminal factions behind the Russia/Ukraine controversy. Normally I recommend reading the first book in a series, then proceeding to the next. This book is an exception. It can stand on its own. Readers who buy this book will likely end up buying the first anyway. Though it is not being released until 2015, I have already pre-ordered the third in the series for my Kindle. Yes, it is that good.

Smooth as Ice
By Mary Esterhammer-Fic
I read the first book in the series ("The Boy from Reactor 4") and I thought it was pretty good. When this title came up on Vine, I realized I wanted to see what was next for young hockey star Bobby.
Orest Stelmach does not disappoint. The boy in question is still inspiring awe in the rink, as a high school student at Fordham Prep in the Bronx. He has seemingly settled into life as an American teenager who lives with his guardian, cousin Nadia Tesla, with whom he bonded on a life-or-death race across Ukraine, Russia and Alaska in the last novel.
And like every other American teenager, he has secrets and is a bit too involved with social media for his own good.
How did this quiet, gentle, somewhat odd boy get arrested for murder? He ends up at Rikers, refusing to speak to Nadia or her best friend, attorney Johnny Tanner. Nadia and Johnny try to advocate for him, but Bobby stonewalls...until he learns that Nadia has decided to go looking for answers on her own, back in Ukraine.
Stelmach really hits his stride in this book. Nadia rings true, and the other characters are also believable. The action picks up pace and never slows; the dialogue pops, and the plot twists and turns like a good defenceman. I did not want to put this book down.
The best element is the author's description of Ukraine and Ukraine culture. Loved it! This makes me want to visit Kyev, but probably not right now.
I also like that the author does not avoid references to religion. The faith culture of Ukraine is very important, and too often it's ignored or minimized. Here, it's treated as an essential part of Ukraine history and society, and Stelmach handles it gracefully.
The only real complaint I have is that the title character is the least developed. I think this will change in forthcoming books, which look very likely.
Sign me up for the next in the series! I can't wait to read about what happens to Bobby and Nadia...and good ol' Johnny Tanner.

Good yarn with a cast of characters
By Robert E. Bower
The story picked up momentum as it unfolded. I found it suspenseful with a lot of action. At times there seemed to be too many characters stepping in from the sidelines, but if you can ignore that,it's a good read. Loose ends: Lauren`s adventure in Alaska left unexplained. Since this is Book II in series about Nadia Tesla I am drawn to reading Book I to fill in the story.
