A MUST READ IF YOU STRIVE TO BE A BETTER YOU

[[VIDEOID:mo2Q82O6IDZ0KEC]]I've read a lot of James Altucher's work including I Was Blind But Now I See. I find him insightful, unconventional, thought-provoking. This time he's brilliant. He's tightened his style and delivered his message like a bullet. No pussyfooting around here.

This book is for those of us who have found ourselves lying on the floor, barely able to lift our heads, not sure where to turn, just as James did once (twice, three times?). It's for those who are stuck. For those who are successful but want to take it to the next level.

If you strive to be a better version of you, you owe it to yourself to read this book.

James doesn't ask you to believe him. He just asks that you try the Daily Practice, which is practical, doable, possible for all of us. He asks that you don't ignore the only fire worth cultivating, the one inside of you. After all, he says, you are the only one capable of cultivating it.

I'm taking that to heart. I have my own daily practice. But I'm going to put it into high gear. Because last night, when I finished the book, I felt like I could be extraordinary.

Wake from the Nightmare: The New Textbook for the American Dream

"That's when it clicked...if I was going to thrive, survive, I had to choose myself...We can no longer afford to rely on others and repeat the same mistakes from our past...every second, you have to choose yourself to succeed."

James Altucher's latest work, "Choose Yourself" is the new textbook for the American Dream. James starts with a healthy dose of American history, discussing how what we thought was the American Dream is, in fact, the American nightmare--a dissolving middle-class with replaceable workers; a consumer-based society giving us just enough to be happy and not rebel. "Your bosses hate you," James says to those of us working hard to achieve this "dream." James states that as workers create more and more wealth, jobs go overseas, job security decreases, and we're all lucky to have jobs. He has the graphs to prove it.

We're all suffering from "postsocietal traumatic stress disorder." Society's changing. The global economy has shifted. We need to be able to make that shift to succeed.

What does this mean? It means, James says, that the "Choose Yourself" era is here. In our parents' time, people worked for The Man and retired with a pension. Today, we will be controlled by layoffs, shifts, restructuring, and be at the whim of the economy and corporations--unless we choose ourselves.

"We are taught from an early age we are not good enough." This book argues otherwise. We are good enough--we have to use our creativity and entrepreneurship muscles. This stuff works. I know. We are all artists and entrepreneurs. Time to "unlearn the imprisonment," as James says. "Every time you say 'yes' to something you don't want, your fire goes away."

"Choose Yourself" is easy to read, and gets right to the heart of the things we need to consider about ourselves but don't often do. Get rid of negativity. Generate ideas. Recreate yourself. Every person is an artist and an entrepreneur, James insists. As someone who spent a considerable amount of time avoiding the "e" word, I know James is right. Prophetic even. Every potential entrepreneur must read this book.

But it goes further. I teach. I demand students consider these issues in class. James has now written the text. I will use this book in my classes. Students must live these things--"Choose Yourself" is the followup to James' book 40 Alternatives to College I've been waiting for--I'm grateful. This is truly an education book.

"Choose Yourself" teaches on so many levels--it reminds me about fundamentals of creativity, entrepreneurship, and balance. It will teach my students how to be successful, avoiding the pitfalls of permanent low-paying jobs, carrying massive debt, and being replaceable. It will help you regain the balance and confidence you need to "Choose Yourself," choose your destiny, and conquer the world, despite the challenges the 21st century brings.

Something for Everyone

I was fortunate enough to read this wonderful new book by the author James Altucher (I first read his work by following him on twitter @jaltucher and reading posts on his website jamesaltucher.com).

It is one of the most enjoyable and informative books I've ever read, and I highly recommend folks take some time to check it out. It's not that long but, wow, is it packed with powerfully-good information.

I could write about it for a while but, rather than doing so, it is probably more efficient to just mention a few of my favorite tidbits from the book in hopes that you'll give it a read.

My personal favorite aspect of the book is its unique ability to be both practical and idealistic.

Some quick examples:

First, his impressive intertwining of the importance of mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional harmony. Here are one of his recommendations from each of these four pieces:

Mental: "Read two hours a day."

Spiritual: "Do this every day: wake up and think of five people you are grateful for in your life right now."

Physical: "Am I sleeping enough?"

Emotional: "Am I expressing gratitude to the people who are good to me?"

Lastly, a few short snippets:

I really enjoyed his insight into an alternative way of creating value (which I personally feel is an important key to cultivating capitalism optimally):

"The only way to create value for yourself is to create value for others. Exercise: think of two people in your network who don't know each other but you think can add value to each other's lives. Introduce them. Do this every day. Get better and better at it. The more value you bring to the people in your network, even if it doesn't directly bring value to you (in an immediate way), the greater the value of your network. And then the greater value you will have."

I also liked his advice on how to learn from others:

"Don't be a hater! Ninety-nine percent of people are haters. Bless that which you want.

If you want to be successful, you need to study success, not hate it or be envious of it. If you are envious, then you will distance yourself from success and make it that much harder to get there. Never be jealous. Never think someone is 'lucky.' Luck is created by the prepared."

I highly recommend taking some time to read this wonderful author's intriguing ideas.

Charming and funny - I loved everything about this novel!

When Nell's ex-boyfriend and boss Aidan asks to talk to her in private she's hopeful that he's going to ask her to get back together. But when he instead breaks the news to her that she, along with mostly everyone else in the office, is being made redundant, her world falls apart. While not completely satisfied with her job she had become very used to her life and routine and she's worried about the inevitable tribulations of job hunting that now lay ahead of her. As her redundancy pay isn't going to get Nell far while she's looking for a new place of employment she instead decides that she deserves a break to clear her head and get the energy for the looming job hunting process ahead.

Visiting her local travel agency she in a spur of the moment decides to ask her cousin Lizzie in San Francisco if she wouldn't mind Nell crashing at her place for a few weeks. Lizzie loves the idea of spending some time with her cousin again and before Nell knows it she's on a plane to the US of A for two months of fun in San Francisco, where she not only reconnects with her cousin and her love of baking, but also meets a wealth of wonderful new people who quickly become a big part of her life in her temporary new home.

I loved absolutely everything about this novel! The gorgeous and sparkly cover, the wonderful main character of Nell, her friends (new and old), the dream job she slowly makes a progress with in her new surroundings, the setting of San Francisco, and of course the gorgeous Max Rossi - the potential new beau on Nell's horizon. Honestly I could go on and on about all the things I loved (ie. everything), but most importantly is of course the fact that I found the main protagonist very likeable. Nell is kind, sweet, funny and relatable, and despite the dilemmas she's faced with that make it seem impossible for her to succeed, I kept rooting for her no matter what and hoped she'd make the decision which would ultimately give her the happiness she so deserves.

Another thing that really appealed to me is the story of Nell's journey throughout the book in a physical sense. I love travelling and while I haven't been to San Francisco myself and it wasn't on my radar before (I have been to California but only visited Los Angeles and San Diego on my trip), after reading this book it's quickly made its way high up my list of cities to visit as author Miranda Dickinson makes it sound so inviting. She not only covers a lot of famous touristy sights through Nell's explorations, but she also manages to put the alluring atmosphere of the city to paper from the natives' perspective and it sounds like an absolutely wonderful place to spend some time in, whether for a short holiday or more permanently.

This is the first novel I've read by Miranda Dickinson, but it certainly won't be the last. The incredibly cute 'Take a Look at Me Now', with its charming and funny characters, was impossible to put down and I already want more (and I'm not just talking about the wealth of delicious baked goods that were described into mouthwatering detail by the author, though I want some more of those too...).

It's a great choice for easy summer reading

In one day, Londoner Nell Sullivan finds herself unemployed and single in less than one day. She decides to take her redundancy ( that's severance or unemployment for us Yanks) . She decides that an adventure is in order. Nell flies "across the pond" to San Francisco to see the town and stay with her cousin. Nell got more than she bargained for and finds that she must make some life changing choices.

Take A Look At Me Now is definitely "chick lit". It's a great choice for easy summer reading. Miranda Richardson is comfortable in the Chick Lit genre. She fully develops her characters making them totally believable. Her description of places and locales is excellent. Well worth reading!

Very uplifting chick-lit read!

I was looking for a light, funny romance and I wasn't disappointed. This book featured a heroine from England feeling her way through American culture and I always love fish-out-of-water stories. Against the backdrop of San Francisco, the romance between Nell and Max is extra-romantic. It was fun to watch Nell name, go for, and realize her dream of running her own American-style diner. I liked the side character of Nell's cousin and her romantic storyline, and the colorful characters who inhabit the Haight district in which Nell stays in The States.

For lovers of old-school Chick-Lit, this book fits the bill. I'll keep returning to Miranda Dickinson. I know what I'm promised, and she always delivers.

This was a ok story. But I was not pleased to have a man fall in love with his dead wife sister. Any real woman would always won if he really lo her or wishing she was her dead sister or just replacing her. And when she says she fell in love with him years ago , was she lusting after him even when her sister was alive------- Not a good choice of story line for me

I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't

Well, I wanted to like it, but I just couldn't. If you have a problem with a sister being in love with her brother-in-law, you're going to have a problem with this book. On top of that, it has far too many plot holes. On order to make the story work the FBI agents regularly show incompetence on the level of Inspector Clouseau, the problem is of course that this isn't a comedy. If you have ever seen "The Bad Seed," "Basic Instinct," or "Fatal Attraction" you already know most of the plot twists. If you have read "The Wedding" or seen the movie on which it was based, then you know from the prologue who the main character is going to pick. The I found myself calling out the plots of various movies and books as it all seems to lifted straight from their pages. Granted this book is only $2.99, so I wasn't expecting Agatha Christie or Edgar Allen Poe, but I was expecting something a little better than this.

I kept hoping the guy would wise up and then I finally just chalked it to him taking too many licks when he was in the ring. The characters were likable and the one you were suppose to hate, well, you hated her. I enjoyed the book and wanted to finish it--and the lead guy did regret what he did.

Author, Willow Rose is a name I will not forget....Though I haven't tried her series yet, I am going to now after reading this dark, bloody/thriller....Pure "Psycho"......This novella was excellent, suspenseful and emotional right up until the twisted ending....

Lisa has just given birth at age 40 to a little baby girl, Josephine....Now she feels her family is finally complete...But it seems Lisa has always suffered from a little bit of obsessive, compulsive disorder and everything in her life needs to be perfect, including her family portrait...But like every new mother, she is exhausted from no sleep, worried about losing weight and seems to be suffering from post partum depression..Which her husband Christian, and everyone in the home knows and are trying to support her as best as possible....

Strange things start happening to the baby...Lisa finds her toys missing, baby clothes in garbage bags, and someone keeps resting the baby on her stomache in the crib to suffocate her....She has now grown very suspicious and over protective of baby, Josephine....She thinks that one of her other children have become extremely jealous...Lisa with her OCD, can't have any of her family feeling neglected...She has made up her mind she will give them all the important attention that they need, including her best friend, Rebekka Franck......

Wegen der Unkompliziertheit der Programmierumgebung benutzen einige Beispiele Sprachaus- und auch Eingabe, die der Messwerterfassung eine spielerische Komponente verleihen sollen.

Alle nachfolgenden Kapitel beinhalten willkürlich gewählte, aber messtechnisch subjektiv naheliegende Beispiele und bestehen dabei aus möglichst weniger als 26 Zeilen, der vertikalen Textauflösung des benutzten Smartphones in der Standardeinstellung. Bei der Datenübertragung über Bluetooth wird als Gegenstelle zum Smartphone ein PC mit Windows eingesetzt, um zu zeigen, wie beide Systeme miteinander kommunizieren können. Alle anderen Kapitel kommen überwiegend ohne zusätzliche Hardware aus.

Als BASIC kommt rfo-Basic zum Einsatz. Dieser Interpreter läuft auf dem Handy bzw. Tablet unter Android und muss lediglich einmal installiert werden. Rfo-Basic findet man im Google-Play-Store mit der Suche nach „basic“. Es wurde von Paul Laughton entwickelt und ist in der Version 01.73 nur 488 kB klein. Es hat den Charme der 80er, aber unterstützt fast alles, was für kleinere und mittlere Projekte benötigt wird. Kurz: Programmentwicklung in der Hosentasche.

Das rfo-Basic installiert ebenfalls einige Beispiele, die den Einstieg erheblich erleichtern können. Auch besteht die Möglichkeit mit Hilfe dieser Sprache eigenständige App’s zu erstellen. only about one chapter is worth while. i am a chronic sufferer too and basically i think you have to try everything to avoid surgery. this didn't excite me that much though and i have tried it for the months since i got book and still had flare ups. kind of expensive given that the information is not all new and only one concept was new. I won't be a spoiler since i am sure Jini wants to keep selling book, but it was just an ok book
