Americans on D-Day...

In writing this book, Ambrose took full advantage of his insider's access to the oral histories of the Eisenhower Center's archive. It is an engrossing account of the experiences of people who participated in the D-Day invasion, including some from the German side, and it offers some interesting judgments, but the book ought really to have been entitled `Americans on D-Day' because the vast majority of it is devoted to the Utah and Omaha landings; the British and Canadian operations on Gold, Sword and Juno beaches are only briefly summarized at the end of the book (hence only four stars).
