About the Author
Andrew Whitechapel is a senior program manager for the Windows Phone Application Platform team, performing scoping and design for the application platform (both native and managed), including v7.5 (Mango) and future releases. He is responsible for core parts of the platform, including the application packaging/install database and services, the application execution manager, and the resource manager (memory, CPU, thread pool, etc). He has written several books, including the Microsoft Press books Microsoft .NET Development with Microsoft Office and Inside C# (for which he was a co-author), as well as numerous articles for MSDN Magazine and other publications.

Very Comprehensive

What this book isn't:
1. A book about XNA game development
2. A book about things you can get to underneath the normal Windows Phone API
I was not interested in 1, but was hoping for 2, although I did not believe it was even possible. Apparently it's not. But with that said, this is the most comprehensive book I've found on Windows Phone 7 development. It goes well beyond the usual "how you do things" stuff you normally find in programming books, and goes into the "how you should do things" area. This information is of great use if you would like to use the Windows Phone 7 API, versus fighting it to a standstill. Because you can't know how the API developers intended you to use the API, just from examining the API, having a book like this available is invaluable.
But don't get me wrong, it also goes into how you do things in far greater detail than any other Windows Phone 7 programming books I have. I was fortunate enough to have gotten this just as I was ramping up on a new Windows Phone 7 project, and I've found it a very useful book all around.

The big Windows Phone encyclopedia

Un gran libro de consulta de este sistema operativo para dispositivos móviles de Microsoft. Completo en contenido, uno de los más completos, y tratado este en profundidad.
Me ha sorprendido la cantidad de información que lanza el autor en este libro. Después de leer bastantes manuales sobre el tema, uno va viendo como el nivel de los mismos también avanza a medida que avanza el nivel de los programadores y el de la plataforma. Este es un libro en el que se ve eso, no solo enseña lo justito para empezar, sino que profundiza y te cuenta todos (o casi) los entresijos de cada de los topics relacionados con Windows Phone.
Definitivamente es un libro de referencia que debe estar en la librería de todo desarrollador de WP7, ya que siempre tiene información útil y que a veces no he podido encontrar por otros medios. La única parte negativa, es que no está pensado como un manual paso a paso, de ahí que tenga un 9 y no el 10. Por eso no se recomienda como primer libro o manual de iniciación. Una vez que tengas un poco de experiencia, me repito, es una gran opción.

I was surprised by the amount of information that throws the author in this book. After reading many manuals on the subject, one is seeing the same level is also progressing with advancing the level of the programmers and the platform. This is a book that is so, not only teaches justito to start, but deepens and tells you all (or almost) the intricacies of Windows Phone.
Definitely a reference book that should be in the library of every developer of WP7, as it always has useful information and sometimes I could not find otherwise. The only downside is that it is not intended as a manual step by step, and thus has a 9 and not 10. So not recommended as a first book or manual initiation. Once you have a little experience, I repeat, is a great option.

Awesome Book!!! Great Coverage!!!

This book starts with a great overview of the entire Windows Phone landscape. The author does a great job of introducing the development lifecycle and the anatomy of a basic windows phone application.
After the initial chapter the author continues in Part I Building Blocks to lay a solid foundation for the rest of the book. The book has a total of four parts. I have listed each part below with the chapters they include.

In Part II Application Model the author digs into the guts of the way applications should behave and how to figure out what is going wrong through diagnostics and debugging.
The third part of the book shows us how we can integrate the phone's built in features into our applications. It includes coverage of the launchers and choosers, the audio and video APIs, web services, the Web Browser control, OData, Bing Maps, Deep Zoom, Azure, Sky Drive, the push notification architecture, and a ton of performance tips.
The last part of the book covers the 7.5 enhancements and there are a ton of them. Some of them include multi-tasking, background agents, camera manipulation, and local database support.
The thing I like most about this book is that the author covers the architecture and design of the different features he covers. He makes extensive use of diagrams to give you an over all picture of the topics being covered, and then he digs into the details.
He backs up the details he covers with tons of code samples. The code samples that accompany this book are very well organized and usable.
The only thing that could have made this book better is to have it printed in color. After reading several recently that were in color I got kind of spoiled. I can't ding the book for that though.
I think this book is good for the experienced C# developer looking to begin Windows Phone development as well as experienced Windows Phone developers. The book makes a great cover to cover read as well as a great reference.
All in all, if you are a Windows Phone developer, you need to have this book by your side.
