Mia Evans has one goal in life: to be perfect enough that her parents will love her, or at least love each other again.
Three years ago, her brother left her family, choosing a girl over the Evans name. Watching her mother cry and her father shut the rest of them out, Mia made a promise to herself that she would be the one to bring them back together again. Yet, despite her acceptance to Stanford, her perfect academic record, and a flawless resume`, Mia finds her family getting further and further apart.
Enter Ryan Murphy, the boy next door.
Ryan has loved Mia Evans since the day he saw her sitting on her front porch weeping into her knees. Fifteen then, Ryan had been unsure of what to do, so he'd sat at his window and watched over her, and in that time, a piece of him became hers.
Now, three years later, Ryan hasn't told Mia how he feels, but he gets the chance when he's forced to beg her to tutor him and save him from his mother. As their relationship progresses, Ryan realizes that Mia is more than he could have ever dreamed of, and that his feelings go a lot deeper than he ever imagined possible. And still, can they work?
Mia didn't want to want Ryan Murphy. Just the opposite, actually. She agreed to tutor him because that's her job, but she doesn't have to like it, or the fact that she can't seem to stop noticing how gorgeous he is.
Against all of her better judgment, Mia finds herself falling for Ryan, and falling hard. When the time comes for Mia to make the same decision that broke her family three years ago, she's torn: follow her heart, and lose her family, or follow her family and lose the only person whose ever really loved her.

The little book that could!
By SouthernBelle_LovesReading
This book was so unexpected - in a good way! When I read the description of the story I thought it would be a good light read for me. A nice break from the heavily angst ridden rock stars, billionaires, bad-boy, and alpha-male characters I seem to come across constantly. The characters were deeper and had more depth than many adults I have met in life. The characters are in high school but that did not dissuade me from relating to them. At some point in our lives we have to figure out where we stand within our immediate families. Mia and Ryan had to navigate the torrential waters of High School all while falling in love and figuring out the direction of their lives after high school. It would have been easy for Mia to lose herself in hot guy Ryan but I admired her courage to admit to herself and Ryan that she needed to take care of her own life before she would be any good with him. I felt her struggle throughout the book and was rooting for the couple hoping for their own Happily Ever After. What struck me about this story was its hidden depth of emotions. I am looking forward to reading more from this author!

LOVED IT
By sarah302cc
I have fallen in love with this book! I could not have picked a more perfect book to spend today reading and I can't wait for you [the reader of my fabulous review] to fall in love with this story just as i have! The story contained deep and thought provoking ideas that while they did not always align with my experiences held some shred of semblance that allowed me to become invested in the story and easily relate to Mia! If i can provide only one piece of praise for this book it would be its being easily related to! As a rising highschool senior I often feel swamped by college essays, applications, classes, gpa, rank, grades, volunteer work, clubs, leadership oppurtunities, interviews, visits, and (of course) resumes with my social life seemingly nonexistent, and that is how Mia is portrayed! I LOVED THAT! FINALLY A CHARACTER WHO IS OVERWHELMED BY SCHOOL! I felt like the author was so totally in touch! She understood the extreme time that school takes up in so many teenagers lives! High school better not be the "best time of my life" like so many refer to it as because if it is then my life is pretty awful and drab and unsocial and bogged down by commitments and work. The message in this book ran deep, although mia's experiences were far different from my own the lessons she learned and that the author taught the reader were not so specific to Mia! I love when a book makes me think and even more love when a book makes me reflect and grow! This book did all of the above! List of books perfect traits thus far in the review: relatable, in touch with highschool, deep, broadly applicable lessons, thought provoking, reflection provoking, personal emotional growth provoking. Now we can't forget the romance! The part of the story which keeps it from being really depressing and uninteresting! I loved the boy! WHO WOULDNT!?!? And i loved their relationship, although it struggled it was a beautiful relationship that i can only hope to have something like someday! I also love the fact that i fell in love with a romance with minimal sexual scenes! THATS RARE! THAT MEANS THERE IS A CONNECTION! THAT MEANS CONGRATS TO THE AUTHOR! So in all this book is perfect and everyone should read it because its perfect and you will fall in love with the story just like i did! I LOVED IT SO GO READ IT!

An Okay Story With a Lot of Repetition Throughout
By The eBook Investigator
I enjoyed the overall storyline but there was too much repetition threaded throughout this book for my taste and most all of that was focused on Mia's family and Joe, the brother who had chosen his own path.
Mia's parents were very controlling and had their children's lives all planned out, never considering what their children may want for themselves. If the siblings were to follow their parents plans for them, they would be required to attend the school of their parents' choice, follow the family's chosen career in the family business, who and when to marry, when to produce children, and how they lived their existence in every way. They put the D in dysfunctional. It was pretty sad, really. When the eldest son, Joe, decided on a different path for his life, he ended up leaving his family to strike out on his own. There was no way he could stay near his family and live the life he wanted to. The parental interference would have made that impossible. Once he left, his parents disowned him and pretended he had never existed.
Mia bases her whole life on what her family wants for her as she works diligently to help hold them all together. The poor gal doesn't know who she is or what she wants for herself. She is too busy following her mother's instructions for all of the extra curricular activities that will show well on her college application and making appearances at her family's business functions so they would appear like the strong cohesive family they wanted everyone to believe them to be. When she begins to have her own thoughts and desires, she is sure they are wrong, giving up what she truly wants. Her parents wouldn't approve. It made life tough on her.
Ryan is the sweet, gorgeous, carefree, sexy neighbor that attends the same school as Mia and who has wanted a relationship with her since they were 15. Now at age 18, Mia becomes his tutor and she falls hard for him. He feels the same and is in love with her.
Will Mia allow her family to keep her from her heart's desires?
I had a bit of difficulty remaining focused on this book. For me, there was a lot of unnecessary details that drew the story out too long with too much time between interesting interactions.
