Going Once--Going to Be A Good New Series
By Mary L. Valley
Sharon Sala has given us another book about crazy weather and crazy killers. It's enough to make me more wary of storms in the future.
The book begin immediately with a seriously ill heroine being forced to leave her flooding house and climb a tree to escape being swept away by rapidly rising flood waters. While in her tree, she witnesses the murder of her neighbors, who are trapped on their roof, by a man dressed as a law officer who uses his disguise to get close enough to his victims to make a fast kill. Knowing that if she's discovered, she'll meet the same fate, she keeps quiet as he passes below her. She gets a poor view of him, not enough to identify him, but she is the only witness to a killer.
When she is found and rescued, unconscious from her fever and exposure, she tries to tell what she's seen, but is not believed because of her illness until the FBI shows up after several of the recovered bodies show that they died from gunshot wounds, rather than drowning. The FBI task force, who have been following a serial killer who finds his victims in the wake of natural disasters, realize that a witness is a major break, even if she didn't get a good look at him and mobilizes to protect her.
As luck (and the plot) would have it, the profiler of this group is the heroine's first and only love. They had lost touch when the hero showed up at her house late one night, telling her he had to leave town now and demanding she come with him this second, no questions allowed. Not understanding and unable to get further information from the hero, they fight and he leaves. She doesn't see him again until she wakes in the hospital.
The hero, who has always regretted the loss of their love, and who realizes he handled it badly that traumatic night sees an opportunity to regain the woman he's never gotten over. The heroine, feeling abandoned and betrayed is not ready to step back into his life. When her identity and status as a witness (and loose end) is leaked by the media, she also becomes the focus of a killer, caught up in his media persona, who is determined to eliminate what he sees as an oversight and a blot on his record.
The story of the hero and heroine as they repair their fractured relationship is wound around a deeply disturbed killer, the chaos of a destroyed community and its displaced citizens, and the hero's need to confront the demons from his past and the family betrayals that drove him from home while he tries to bring an end to the killer's career and keep the woman he loves alive and in his arms.
Yes, there is sexual content. It is handled well and does not overwhelm the story, but it is there for those who like a clean romance, this is your warning. This is not a steamy sexual romance, but the scenes flow well and are well written. Character development is interesting and more intricate than is possible in shorter books. Both hero and heroine resolve their conflict nicely, no so with the hero's problems with what remains of his family. I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next, but do need to warn that, while hero and heroine wind up their story nicely, the book ends in a mild cliff hanger that tells you the killer and the hero's past are still not done with this couple. For those who don't like ANY PNR elements, there is a thin thread that weaves through the story, hardly even there and consists mostly of dream warnings.

Floods, Murder and Mayhem Keep the Tension High....
By terrylynn
I have been a Sharon Sala fan ever since I read Dark Water which is still my favorite and I can heartily recommend it if you haven't read it. Another great read by this author is Torn Apart, a horrifying story about a little boy kidnapped during a tornado by the worst kind of monster. Now... on to this one... Going Once.
Forces of Nature is an interesting idea for a series... basing the stories around different disasters. The tension is high from the moment we find our heroine Nola fighting for her life after climbing a tree to escape a raging flood. When the unthinkable happens and Nola witnesses the murders of three innocent neighbors, she has no idea that her life is about to change even more than she imagined and it soon becomes clear that losing everything she owns is the least of her worries.
Our hero, Tate Benton is an FBI agent who has been tracking a killer dubbed The Stormchaser because he commits his crimes immediately after any natural disaster that might leave victims helpless and isolated. So when Tate and his team receive the call to report to his hometown which has been hit hard by the flood, he knows there is a good chance he will come face to face with Nola, the love of his life whom he was forced to leave behind years ago, and the father he has been estranged from for the most painful of reasons. When the killer learns he has a witness to worry about, the chase is on as Tate and his fellow agents try desperately to identify this man who they know is walking amongst them before he can get to Nola. And it's anything but easy with the chaos that surrounds a town that's trying to deal with a deadly disaster and a killer in their midst.
Going Once is a fast paced story with appealing lead characters, a little romance, and a lot of action, tension and suspense. I found myself burning the midnight oil with this one and look forward to Going Twice (Forces of Nature).

Top Choice for Romantic Suspense!!!
By Linda Langford at Chatting About Cozies
4-1/2 STARS!! I have NEVER read a Sharon Sala romantic suspense story that I did not like!!! Here's a little taste of what this story is about......The setting is Queens Crossing, Louisiana where it's coming a flood. Nola, the heroine, wakes to her dead mother's voice telling her to get out of the house---which she does, despite the fact that she has a high fever and is already weak. She manages to climb a strong tree, and clings to it as the floodwaters rise. When she witnesses her neighbors murdered instead of rescued, her life turns into a worse nightmare than just losing her home and all possessions to the flood.
Three FBI agents enter the scene---Tate, being the profiler of the group, and the only man Nola ever truly loved---and his friends, Cameron and Wade. When word is leaked that Nola witnessed the murders, the killer, nick-named 'Stormchaser', begins to stalk and try to kill Nola.
There is plenty of suspense, and vivid description as this story churns along at a fast pace. The ending leaves you teetering on a cliff; breathlessly waiting for the second book in the series to find out what happens next with the psychopathic killer, known as 'Stormchaser'.
